Railway decides on setting up of rail factory in Singur
The Railway Ministry today agreed to set up a rail coach factory in Singur in West Bengal which was abandoned by Tata Motors following protest from locals and political groups.
However, the Ministry has placed riders to set up the factory, saying the 400 acres land should be kept out of the factory site and immediately returned to the affected farmers, who were unwilling to part with it.
Highly placed Railway Ministry sources said a communication has been dispatched to the West Bengal government accepting the offer by state Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty to Railway Board Chairman S S Khurana yesterday on set up the factory.
The Railway Ministry sought further clarification on the use of the land, in the communication prepared after daylong deliberations in the Ministry on the issue.
